August 11, 2007, First Meeting

August 11, 2007. The day we first met in person. And just over a month after we realized we’d get married.

My arrival at Springfield is just a blur. I remember the approach to the airport, taxiing and then a complete blank until I got to the security gate. I stepped through and couldn’t see where to pick up my bags. I asked a security guard, and as I stepped away I saw someone running towards me. Ginger nearly knocked me over. I guess we just meant to have a hug and say hello, but the hug and tears quickly turned into a kiss, and within a few seconds of meeting I think we both knew that this was it.

We went and sat and stared at each other, held hands, and caught up on some more kissing while waiting for my bags to clear. Then to the car, a quick bite to eat, and on with the first day of our life together.
