Favorites

Most of my pictures are ‘documentary/memento’ images. This is a collection of all my favorite pictures. What defines a favorite picture or post? It might be a really good picture, or it might hold a special memory of a place, time, or event. Most are pictures I’ve taken. A few have been scavenged from family, friends, and other sources. They’ve all been selected from the 3,200-plus posts and over 7,700 pictures on Breakfast in America.

When did I grow old?

When did I grow old? It feels like I blinked, and suddenly I’ve aged — I was writing in my journal when I noticed how old my hands looked. I don’t feel older, but I now have my grandparents’ hands: the loose flesh, thin skin, age spots, and prominent veins. 2

Little Brazil Creek is very ‘scrubby’

Little Brazil Creek is very 'scrubby' — Looking north. I'm filling up with water for tonight and tomorrow. I've yet to find a good camping spot near this creek. I hiked over ten miles today to get here.

Fan

Fan — It's the usual story; I liked the play of the light. :)

‘Spring Hollow’

'Spring Hollow' — I decided to camp above the big rock formation on the right. 2

‘Spring Hollow’ a great secluded spot

'Spring Hollow' a great secluded spot — Getting here across all the large boulders and down the steep hollow sides can be a bit sketchy, but worth the effort.

A fleeting burst of sunshine

A fleeting burst of sunshine. Right place, right time. A lucky shot as the sun shone for just a minute.

Hammock camping in the snow

Hammock camping in the snow. 7:20 a.m. and it's been snowing for around nine hours. I was nice and cozy in my hammock.

Camp Five Pond, Irish Wilderness

Camp Five Pond, Irish Wilderness. From the western side looking towards the trailhead and parking lot. Once more, ours is the only vehicle present.

Mist after rain

Mist after rain — After yesterday's rain last night and this morning were very misty.

Day Four — Misty, damp morning

Day Four — Misty, damp morning. I was planning on spending the night at Fiddler Spring, but there was a hunting camp set up there (no one was at home). I grabbed three liters of water from the much slower than usual spring and decided I'd head away from the hunters to this established primitive campsite around three quarters of a mile away.

Blue Bowl, Blanket Box, and Crocs

Blue Bowl, Blanket Box, and Crocs — I was passing through the 'Sparkle Zone' when I noticed the light on the bowl, blanket box, and Crocs. The latter, with their color popping.
