Living happily ever after still means you have to clean house and do the dishes
Memories
Most of my pictures are ‘documentary/memento’ images. This is a collection of all my favorite memories and pictures. Most are pictures I’ve taken. A few have been scavenged from family, friends, and other sources. They’ve all been selected from the 3,200-plus posts and over 7,700 pictures on Breakfast in America.
Gary at the Big Paddy Creek Scenic Overlook, Paddy Creek Wilderness — It was very windy up on the ridge, and the wind was quite chilly, which was nice as it was 82°F in the sun. This is another Ozarks view I never tire of. 3
Orange cat and spot — Of course a visit to see Katie also means a chance to see Dick, our grandcat in his native environment and with a nice midcentury modern style rug too.
The Kauffman Center from the 32nd floor terrace, Kansas City Power and Light Building — We were at the Kauffman Center last night for Chris Thile with the Kansas City Symphony.
Empty Chair — I'd planned on taking a picture of Ginger sitting enjoying the view, which would have been a great silhouette. But Ginger got up as I grabbed my phone.
The sudden shock of being confronted with the expanse of the plains — I saw this picture — well, one like it — while driving north on Day 3 and made a note to take a picture on the return trip, except I couldn't find the exact viewpoint I'd found, which is a shame because it was a much better composition. Oh well, this photograph will have to do.
Chalk Creek Canyon — I couldn't resist taking a picture of Chalk Creek Canyon framed by this tree and bush. It was windy and the light was changing rapidly as the clouds moved across the sky.
Turnaround Point, and stopped for lunch — According to my calculations, I was about three-and-a-half miles into my hike, and this log offered a great view and spot to eat lunch.
Piney Creek Wilderness, Table Rock Lake. Looking west towards Buck Hollow and Piney Creek. I took a short hike further east along the lakeshore to find a spot where I could see out across the lake.
When did I grow old? It feels like I blinked, and suddenly I’ve aged — I was writing in my journal when I noticed how old my hands looked. I don’t feel older, but I now have my grandparents’ hands: the loose flesh, thin skin, age spots, and prominent veins.
Whites Creek on the Whites Creek Trail South Loop — The trail at the bottom of the descent down to Whites Creek had been washed out, and parts of the trail were knee-deep in water. Nothing unexpected after all the rain we have had.
Little Brazil Creek is very 'scrubby' — Looking north. I'm filling up with water for tonight and tomorrow. I've yet to find a good camping spot near this creek. I hiked over ten miles today to get here.
'Spring Hollow' a great secluded spot — Getting here across all the large boulders and down the steep hollow sides can be a bit sketchy, but worth the effort.
