I like black and white. Possibly because it was all that was available to me when I had my first camera. More likely it’s that I find it much more emotional. It draws out the subject and removes distractions. In this digital world I almost always shoot in colour and then process specifically for black and white. I particularly like B&W for portraits, which is why so many pictures in this blog are B&W. Sometimes though I like to be able to see the colour of my eyes, or the warmth of the light – I used to tone my B&W pictures, but for some reason I’ve stopped doing that.

What made you such an avid black & white photographer?
