Springfield

Photographs taken in and around Springfield, Missouri.

Morning sunlight in the workshop. +1

Workshop Bling — I finally got around to adding some drawer pulls onto the drawers in the workshop/garage.

Cleaning & Reorganizing — My biggest recent upgrade has been to plumb in compressed air lines so I don’t trip over the airline snaking its way across the floor. I should have done it years ago. +1

Hall Closet #2 finished — well, except the wall still needs patching and repainting.

Stained, ready for varnishing.

Workshop — mid-project. +1

Hall Closet #2 door trim added & doors fitted.

Checking — will everything fit as planned?

Measurements — It was a key requirement that this cart fitted and would pass easily through the doorway.

Backpacking gear to the rescue — Making breakfast and charging my phone while the power is out. We were lucky, we only went without power for 21 hours. +1

Hall Closet #2 — making a start. We’ve been planning to convert this space into a closet for some time now.

Nightstand. Lighter, knife, and wallet — Little quirks that may be missed when I’m no longer around. And yes, I do lay them out like this every night.

At what point does being sensible drop over the edge into being obsessional? Asking for a friend — who likes to squeeze the life out of a toothpaste tube. Sensible or an obsession?

Packing for my first backpacking trip of 2023 — The temperature is forecast to vary from the mid-twenties overnight Saturday to the mid-sixties on Monday, so it is a full winter load-out plus some spring additions. The whole lot including food, water, and fuel weighs in at around 26 lbs. +4

Photograph of drilling air holes in a titanium backpacking wood burning stove.

Titanium backpacking wood stove modifications – My titanium wood stove needs a bit more air. This afternoon I added some more air holes.

Backpacking goodies in the gear closet — there must be over 100 mini Snickers bars there. I won’t be taking any on our next trip. It will be too hot, and melted Snickers are very messy. I know, I’ve tried.

Overdoing things mowing the front yard – Today the temperatures eased off slightly for the first time in many weeks. It was just low enough for me to venture out to tend to the front yard for a few hours.

Ginger’s Glasses – I find them everywhere. I scoop them up from their hiding places and put them somewhere they can be found. She must have 10-20 pairs.

I received a request for a profile pic for my voluntary work, and I don’t like the goofy picture I’m using for my profile at work, so I got out the tripod, set up the camera, and asked Ginger to take some pictures and got both fixed.

Kitchen Table Still Life – I was eating dinner when I noticed the light on these pots that Ginger threw at a pottery class she’s been taking. 2

Milwaukee Fastback 48-22-1990 – I’ve finally got around to replacing the pocket knife I gave to Katie. One-minute read, +1

Sunday cleaning & oiling. Sig Sauer P938 – I’ve been trying to get my hands on a P938 for a long time (over a year). Everywhere I’ve checked they have been out of stock. This is the 9mm version of Katie’s 380 Caliber Sig Sauer P238 handgun. 2

Last set of shelves – Fitting them was not easy… We finally got around to fitting the last set of shelves bringing an end to all the major work on the Utility Room Project for the moment.

March Hibiscus – we moved our hibiscus plants inside for the winter and they have rewarded us by flowering every now and then.
