Keeping my feet warm at 26°F — A change of plan, I decided to hike the five or six miles back to the trailhead and go home. I ought to be able to finish the trip before it gets dark.

I’ve been shopping — It looks like a lot, but at 2-300 rounds per trip to the range it won’t last long. Now I’ve just got to find space to store it all in the gun safe.

Finally, the sun reaches inside my hammock.

Sunday morning therapy: cleaning — It’s good to push the keyboard away, get out the cleaning materials, and smell the G96 gun oil and Hoppes #9 gun bore cleaner while taking my time cleaning and checking my guns.

Family range time — Katie trying out a scope on a pistol. Gary reloading. There was a new AR15 to be tried out and sighted in, and some other new handguns we’d not taken down the range. We organized a family trip down to Sound of Freedom in Ozark and had some fun.

Sig Sauer P938 Extreme, Alien Gear Shape Shift Retention Holster, and a spare magazine — I could have sworn that magazine was full when I headed out.

Morning messages — on my InReach Mini, All the condensation on the Sig and the holster shows just how wet everything got. I dried off the InReach Mini before I took the picture.

Remington Model 31 12 Gauge shotgun – According to the barrel date stamp, it was manufactured in August 1931, so quite early in the production run (as the serial number confirms). Some of the other markings on it suggest it might be of military origin. +2

The forecast lied … Not only did it rain overnight, but the temperature was a lot lower than the forecast at 30℉.

Weekend target practice – There were two “must dos” this weekend. Take some pictures of Jim’s art, and put at least 50 rounds through my Sig P938.

Hammock ridge line holster mount — When I first saw the Alien Gear ShapeShift holster system, I thought it would be great for backpacking. When I bought my Sig Sauer P938, I checked the Alien Gear website and was very pleased to see that there was a holster for it. +1

Sig Sauer P938 & Alien Gear Shape Shift Holster. I may (or may not) have been doing a little target practice.

Sunday cleaning & oiling. Sig Sauer P938 – I’ve been trying to get my hands on a P938 for a long time (over a year). Everywhere I’ve checked they have been out of stock. This is the 9mm version of Katie’s 380 Caliber Sig Sauer P238 handgun. One-minute read, +1

Essential Supplies – What the Brit abroad needs.

Weekend cleaning – To paraphrase the immortal line from ‘Apocalypse Now,’ I love the smell of gun oil in the morning. Many years of backpacking have certainly taken their toll on the finish of my Beretta. Especially on the side that’s showing here. That is the side that faces away from my body when it is in its holster.

A family trip down the range – this afternoon we went down to Sound of Freedom in Ozark for some family ‘range time’. One-minute read. 4 pictures

Father-Daughter Bonding – Lanie’s on target with my Beretta and Katie’s Sig P238. Five-minute read, 6 pictures

Greater love has no step-father than this: – With 20°F temps outside, today was just the sort of day to do some therapeutic cleaning and oiling of Katie’s Sig Sauer P238. Two-minute read, 4 pictures

Black and white photograph of Gsry Allman's Everyday Carry Items

It seems that posts about Everyday Carry are all the rage online at the moment. Either that, or maybe Google is just targeting me with them. Whatever, I thought I’d jump on the bandwagon and produce my own EDC list. +1

Beretta PX4 Storm Compact 9mm – Taken for no particular reason except I wanted to take a picture and didn’t have anything else to hand that would fit on my desk that was vaguely photogenic.
