Workshop

Bowed — before I threw away the bowed worktop I’d set aside as a workbench top, I decided to check how bad it was: 5/16-inch over 36 inches. No, I wasn’t going to be able to use it for anything, so into the trash, it went.

Table saw cart — completed (for now). That’s another job finished. As I hoped, the dust collection seems to work well. I also made a zero clearance saw blade insert for the saw. +1

New workbench storage — I have finally updated the storage area above my workbench. There used to be five plastic cat litter boxes on the shelf. I made these five wood boxes in an afternoon, so the finish isn’t furniture level, but they fit the space well and look much better. +2

Hitachi C10FR Table Saw — My next project. It’s a very well-used worksite jobbing saw, and it is time to make some improvements. +1

Boxes — I was going to custom build the Sparkle Zone Storage Center, but we realized we could save a lot of time (but not $$$ — the doors alone were nearly $700) by bringing in ready-made units.

Workshop Bling — I finally got around to adding some drawer pulls onto the drawers in the workshop/garage.

Cleaning & Reorganizing — My biggest recent upgrade has been to plumb in compressed air lines so I don’t trip over the airline snaking its way across the floor. I should have done it years ago. +1

Workshop — mid-project. +1

Painting – Time to paint the utility room shelving.

Boxes – we have some work to do today. The utility room remodel is getting out of hand! We had already dealt with several boxes when I took this picture.

Making the gear closet doors – There have been a few upgrades in the workshop. Black Friday Grizzly had a drill press and bandsaw on sale at a price I couldn’t refuse. The pair cost less than the bandsaw normally retails at. The bandsaw came in particularly useful for all the joints I had to make for the gear closet doors. One-minute read, +1

Gary in the workshop – Hindsight being the gem that it is, I now know it was a huge mistake to make the doors and not get them ‘off the shelf.’ +3

Garage Project – Just about done – For now… I’ve been tinkering with finishing this project for a few weeks now. It’s slowly getting there. Two-minute read, 5 pictures

Making a spice rack for Ginger (365:217) – Well actually only the back of it. One-minute read, 3 pictures

Three x-rays, one tetanus shot and twelve stitches later (365:135) – Do not try this at home.

Gary and a milling machine (365:131) – Today I visited an engineer’s playground. One-minute read

Making huaraches (365:123) – I meant to make a to-do list today. So I ended up doing all sorts of things that didn’t really need doing, and missing out on things I should be doing. Oh well. One-minute read, 5 pictures

More fun in the workshop (365:095) – Today we are building a “batch-loaded, inverted downdraft gasifier” wood stove out of old tin cans. Two-minute read, +3

A brief visit to the workshop. No sooner did I turn the scroll saw on than the blade broke. Fitting a new blade I discovered the spare blade I had wasn’t the right length … 3 pictures
