Gary Allman

Pictures of Gary Allman — If you don’t see me in one of the pictures below it means I’m featured in a picture in the post.

Stops on the way – This downed tree offered a good place to catch my breath, have a drink, and take a selfie. 4

Good morning! To get up or not to get up? Now that’s a question when it is cold out.

Contemplating – nothing of great import, and I don’t think I wrote more than half a dozen words. 2

Happy Gary in the woods – Here I am, about a mile in and I’d warmed up enough to want to take my jacket off and drink most of my water. I’ll be able to fill my water bottle up when I get to Piney Creek. 4 pictures

Gary on the Pilot Trail, Hercules Glades Wilderness. Hercules Glades – Day One.

This can only mean one thing … After a seven-month break, I’m finally back on the trail with my last hike of 2019. Journal: 16    31

There go my backpacking plans – Things started to get a bit surreal as it dawned on me that I was the “Cardiac Emergency” just announced on the hospital PA system. Five-minute read, 2 pictures

Sitting on the top of the bluff – It’s a six-and-a-half mile hike from the trailhead to the bluffs overlooking Beaver Creek on the western edge of Hercules Glades. I’ve been wanting to get a nice sunset picture from here for ages. One-minute read, 3 pictures

The Hunchback of Hercules – While hiking west on the Pilot (Tower) Trail to the bluffs I was caught by a thunderstorm. Finally a real chance to try out my rain poncho! It worked fine, but with the temperatures up in the mid eighties it was hot and humid with it on. One-minute read, 2 pictures

Oops! I walked into a plate glass window. No real damage done, and luckily there was no one around to witness me doing it.

At my computer. 4 pictures

Taking a break – Catching my breath on the long climb back up to the tower.

Lunch Break at The Falls – Gary and The Falls on Long Creek at Hercules Glades – And no, I wasn’t tempted to take another shower. 6 pictures

He didn’t, did he? – Yes I did. I decided that it was one of those things that if I didn’t do it, I’d regret it later. 2 pictures

Wet Feet Hike – The full write up of my recent hike. I was determined to get out on a couple of free days no matter what the weather was. The forecast was for rain and as it had been raining a lot the past few days I was expecting the trails to be wet. Journal: 17 48

At the Cab – A quick selfie with the cab as I start the final lap of my trip.

About to start part two of my ‘Four Days, Three Nights, Two Wildernesses’ hike.

One down and one to go – This isn’t an ordinary trip. I wanted to get a few more miles under my belt, so I came up with the idea for my ‘Four Days, Three Nights, Two Wildernesses’ hike. Here I am back at the trailhead at the end of the first part. 2

A Tad Chilly – I stayed in bed waiting for things to warm up before venturing out. I don’t have an insulated hood, so I improvised with my shemagh. Very elegant, very old lady. I’m also looking a bit chubby around the chops too.
