Springfield

Photographs taken in and around Springfield, Missouri.

Furnace Closet refurb complete — No more green paint, and the many years of scratches, scrapes and various holes drilled in the walls have been patched. 2

What hole? Four days later, and it’s all fixed. I also patched the rest of the walls, the ceiling, and repainted the lot. 2

Dyson battery & charger holder — It must be summer. Time for some work around the house. It’s too hot and buggy to be outside. 3

That escalated quickly — This started out as a three-hour job. I’ll be lucky if I finish it in under a week.

Finally finished — Two years later, I patched and repainted the wall. 1

Packing for four days by the lake — I’m off to spend four days sitting watching the Lake at my favorite Piney Creek Wilderness camping spot.

Sunday check, clean, and oil — My Sig P938 got very wet while backpacking in the rain at Hercules Glades a while back. Today, I decided to give it a good cleaning and thorough inspection. 1

When did I grow old? It feels like I blinked, and suddenly I’ve aged — I was writing in my journal when I noticed how old my hands looked. I don’t feel older, but I now have my grandparents’ hands: the loose flesh, thin skin, age spots, and prominent veins.

Trip preparation — Charging my InReach and battery block. Printing out and checking the weather forecast. Gathering maps and prepping my trail journal. Getting ready for four days out on the Berryman Trail.

Fan — It’s the usual story; I liked the play of the light. 🙂

Ginger’s Studio Worktable. A hurried shot that I should have taken more time over.

Redistribution — After over a year of working out, I haven’t lost any weight, but it has moved around. My body fat percentage has dropped, and my muscle mass has increased slightly.

Heading out to the gym — It was tempting to take a ‘rest day,’ but I didn’t. Crossing the gym parking lot in my gym kit can be chilly at times!

No work. Feed me!

Dick on Ginger’s office couch.

Dick — Our grandcat has been visiting since before Christmas. He’s going home soon.

Christmas Table Decoration. Mild Steel. By Jim Davis.

Blue Bowl, Blanket Box, and Crocs — I was passing through the ‘Sparkle Zone’ when I noticed the light on the bowl, blanket box, and Crocs. The latter, with their color popping.

Cleome houtteana – Spider Plant — Last year, less than half a dozen of these plants appeared in the front yard flower bed. Ginger collected the seeds and sowed them. This year we have been rewarded by this spectacular display.

Photograph of four leather journals with fountain pens and ink.

Journals and Ink — Four journals, four pens, one pencil, and three bottles of ink. I felt the need to take a picture, and this is what I came up with.

Mammatus clouds over Springfield — We’ve had some weird weather lately. I heard about a house being hit by three tornadoes in the past month (around 30 miles from us). This week, we were on the edge of a storm that, according to the radar, was dumping twenty-five inches of rain per hour. +2

Morning tea on an old stool — At some point in life, we learn the value of eschewing the bright, shiny, and new for the well-worn, used, and patinaed that does its job, and does it well enough.

Cocking a snoot — Actually, I was making a snoot to test out a hair light for Ginger’s video setup in her office.

Upon Reflection — I grabbed the camera after the play of light on the bathroom mirrors caught my attention. To quote Ginger, “It’s a very Gary photograph.”
