Canadian River, south of Logan, New Mexico.

Ginger sitting on the edge of the bluff overlooking the Canadian River, south of Logan, New Mexico.

Day Two — Canadian River Railroad Bridge. Logan, New Mexico. We spent last night in Dodge City, then headed down to Texas, went across Texas and into New Mexico. And why not? It bagged me a new state.

Day One — Annular Eclipse Trip. The plan is simple. We have set aside three days to drive to Odessa, Texas, which is in the middle of the Annular Eclipse track, where the weather is set to be clear and cold. We’ll watch the eclipse and then spend two or three days driving home. +2

Lanie’s been in Europe since December. It’s been my job to give her car a run out every now and then while she’s gone. One has to do these things in style 🙂 +1

Four days by Table Rock Lake at Piney Creek Wilderness, July 2023. It’s time I took a short break, watched the lake for a while, did some navel-gazing, and maybe some journaling. Journal: 10 15

Cats need glasses — and Morty agrees (sort of). Anything for a fluffy lap to sit on. +1

Ginger & Morty — Morty has a particularly strong headbutt.

Journal: Three days hiking the Big Piney Trail, Paddy Creek Wilderness, May 2023. I plan on spending three days on a slow hike of the 16-mile loop of the Big Piney Trail in Paddy Creek Wilderness. Unlike previous trips, it is forecast to rain on the first day, not the last. Journal: 10 43

Journal: Three days hiking at Hercules Glades Wilderness, April 2023. My original plan for the weekend was scrapped. With some time on my hands, I decided to head down to Hercules Gades for a couple of nights. Journal: 8 25

Three days hiking the Ridge Runner Trail and Devil’s Backbone Wilderness, March 2023 This is the last of my ‘Must do’ winter hikes before spring takes off. Journal: 6 27

Journal: Four days hiking the Whites Creek Trail, Irish Wilderness, March 2023.  I plan on spending four days hiking the 20-mile loop of the Whites Creek Trail in Irish Wilderness. I’m hoping there will be a bit of a view from the trail’s only scenic overlook. A recent storm that passed through the area may make the trail a tad tricky. We’ll see. Journal: 10 53

Journal: Two nights and three days taking it easy at Hercules Glades Wilderness, February 2023. Journal: 15 35

A self portrait photograph of Gary Allman keeping warm in his hammock while winter camping. December 2022.

Journal: Four days on the Ridge Runner Trail & the Devil’s Backbone Wilderness, December 2022 – Work has been keeping me off the trail for too long. I took three days of comp time to get out in the wild and put a few miles under my belt. I’ve been wanting to revisit the Ridge Runner Trail North Fork Loop ever since I first hiked the trail in May 2020. Journal: 10 42

Orange colored seventies style table lamp on a blue dresser, with hat and shotgun.

Cottage Still Life – This photo started life as a joke picture for the girls, and then it took on a life of its own requiring a second ‘shoot’ just to put right a few of the details.

Snow in the yard and on the field – We woke Saturday morning to a light dusting of snow which had mostly melted by the evening.

Small farm cottage in the snow. Missouri US.

Cottage in the snow – For the past couple of months Ginger has been working with her parents on a remodeling project, converting the one room with ensuite ‘Little House’ into a Writers/Get Away Cottage. It now has a living room/kitchenette, bedroom, HVAC and a wraparound deck out back. +1

Three nights and four days relaxing by the lake in Piney Creek Wilderness. Except, someone had stolen the lake. It was very low. I’ve not been to my favorite campsite in over a year. It was well overdue a visit. Journal: 10 43

Jim in the workshop. +1

Damascus steel knife – Jim tried his hand at making a Damascus steel knife blade.

Brass canon – Yes, it works! +1
