Home vignette

Little glimpses into our life at home. Synonyms of vignette:

  • a picture (such as an engraving or photograph) that shades off gradually into the surrounding paper
  • a short descriptive literary sketch
  • a brief incident or scene (as in a photograph, play or movie).

Meds — It seems that the older I get, the more meds and supplements it takes to keep me functioning.

Dichroic Glass — A piece from Ginger’s blue glass collection. I liked the bright colors, and the way the blue glass looked almost black with the light reflecting off of the dichroic coating.

Ginger’s Flowers— Ginger loves to sit here in the sun in the winter. I liked the light on flowers and thought I’d try to capture it. 2

Fan — It’s the usual story; I liked the play of the light. 🙂

Ginger’s Studio Worktable. A hurried shot that I should have taken more time over.

Blue Bowl, Blanket Box, and Crocs — I was passing through the ‘Sparkle Zone’ when I noticed the light on the bowl, blanket box, and Crocs. The latter, with their color popping.

Photograph of four leather journals with fountain pens and ink.

Journals and Ink — Four journals, four pens, one pencil, and three bottles of ink. I felt the need to take a picture, and this is what I came up with.

Morning tea on an old stool — At some point in life, we learn the value of eschewing the bright, shiny, and new for the well-worn, used, and patinaed that does its job, and does it well enough.

Sunday morning therapy: cleaning — It’s good to push the keyboard away, get out the cleaning materials, and smell the G96 gun oil and Hoppes #9 gun bore cleaner while taking my time cleaning and checking my guns.

Hitachi C10FR Table Saw — My next project. It’s a very well-used worksite jobbing saw, and it is time to make some improvements.

Rumpled — I loved the play of light, how the duvet mimics the shapes of two people lying back-to-back, and the stories implicit in the folds and wrinkles of the duvet and sheet.

Nightstand. Lighter, knife, and wallet — Little quirks that may be missed when I’m no longer around. And yes, I do lay them out like this every night.

At what point does being sensible drop over the edge into being obsessional? Asking for a friend — who likes to squeeze the life out of a toothpaste tube. Sensible or an obsession?

Overdoing things mowing the front yard – Today the temperatures eased off slightly for the first time in many weeks. It was just low enough for me to venture out to tend to the front yard for a few hours.

Ginger’s Glasses – I find them everywhere. I scoop them up from their hiding places and put them somewhere they can be found. She must have 10-20 pairs.

Waiting for watching – it’s a dull rainy day, and I liked the light.

Unused pencil and old plans – While the pencil remains unused, the plans at least have been implemented with the completion of the storage area in the garage in 2019. +2

Recycling – It’s been a long time. We bribed one of the kids to do it earlier in the year; at that time, there was a huge amount because it included all the packaging for Ginger’s studio remodel.

Ginger’s studio at night.

The Books on my desk – Last night, when I tidied up I left a stack of books on the corner of my desk. Seeing them this morning reminded me how much my life has changed. Four-minute read, 2 pictures

Brushes – I have no recollection of why I popped into Ginger’s studio, but the light caught my attention, so I took a couple of pictures. 2 pictures

Blue Bowl – This is as near to straight out of camera as I can get without re-processing the image in the camera.

Late Night Cleaning and Polishing. I first cleaned these brass ornaments, belonging to my mother when I was 4-5 years old. Two-minute read, 3 pictures

I have a strange photographic obsession with this light fitting. I ought to consider cleaning it before I take any more pictures. As obsessions go, I guess this one is fairly harmless. .jpg file straight out of camera.
