The fall colour at Busiek was stunning We hiked the Yellow and Silver trails at Busiek today – a little over 4 miles and around 624 feet of elevation climbed. Now we’ve started getting out again, we’ve just got to keep it up and get out a couple of times a week. This coming weekend we’re planning on going camping. It’s really good to be getting out again. The the colour of the trees on the trail by the Carter Cemetery were breathtaking. I took this picture when we stopped for lunch by Camp Creek. We finished the hike in

The fall color has been magnificent this year. Thus far we’ve not had an opportunity to get out to enjoy them. So, we’ve decide to take a couple of days out and enjoy the weather and the color while both last.

Breakfast at Aunt Martha’s Pancake House (365:298) +1

Gary and Lanie down by the creek (365:295) – Today we relaxed at Ginger’s parents. I relaxed so much I spent a good part of the afternoon fast asleep sitting on the porch of the guest house. 5

Family cookout (365:294) – Tonight we’re camping at Ginger’s parents.

Gary Allman sitting in a plastic garden cair waiting for the trash man to arrive. Color photograph.

Waiting for the trash man (365:292) – The plan was to get the work finished on the house, get the work inspected, have all the rubbish taken away, hire a trailer for the pick-up, load everything to go back to Springfield, and drive home – a day early.

In the backyard – Berwyn, Illinois (365:291). +1

Making Notes (365:290)

The quiet before the storm (365:289) – Tomorrow the work begins. Tom and I had an uneventful trip up to Chicago. We’re up here to clear Rebbie’s family’s house ready for sale.

Today was another busy day. I was up at five-thirty am and out the door at six for my lift to church, and then I spent most of the next seven hours in the kitchen helping with the meals. It all went very well (well planned and executed Kris!). We were far too busy to take any pictures. I really should have made the effort. Clearing up took a long time, so I decided to stay at church until the afternoon’s events started. I took today’s picture after the blessing of the animals had taken place, Getzger was very well

Gary’s a lumberjack for the day (365:266) – I spent most of the day logging. Some friends are thinning out their trees, cutting the big ones into 8-9 foot logs and sending them to a local lumber mill. I volunteered to give them a hand today, so I spent my day clearing and cutting back brush, chaining logs and standing well back as the tractor dragged them up the hill.

Gary, Lanie and Ginger (hiding at the back) too (365:248)

McDonald’s, I’m good ‘n cold and I have two egg McMuffins! (365:241) – I love Egg McMuffins. Sorry, but it is true. However, that’s jumping ahead a little bit. I was the first to arrive for Biometrics scanning – which was great because it was all over in ten to fifteen minutes. There is probably a joke to be made about an Englishman, a Jamaican and a Russian waiting in line for Biometrics, but it will have to wait for another day. One-minute read

Chatting with Ginger (365:240) – We had a plan, but it didn’t work out. Tomorrow at 8am I have an appointment to have my biometrics taken to extend my US visa by 10 years.

In-car thermometer reading 111 F.

Today the temperature in Joplin Missouri was 111°F (365:214) – That’s 44°C to my overseas chums.2 pictures

Gary and Ginger at Emily and Larry’s Wedding reception (365:211) – Which explains the somewhat curious and questionable lighting.

Phew! What a scorcher – >And other tabloid headlines. You need to be British and of a certain age to understand the relevance of the title; of a certain age because with British weather the opportunities to use headlines like this are few and very far between.

On the flight from Dallas Fort Worth to Springfield (365:196). UK June 2011 – Day 31. It was a long day. 2   2

Ginger and Gary on the beach (365:195) – UK June 2011 – Day 30. Out of focus? Possibly, but if it is, tough. 1

Oh dear! (365:194) – UK June 2011 – Day 29. What a truly appalling picture. One-minute read, 3 pictures

Photo-lethargy strikes yet again (365:193) – UK June 2011 – Day 28. Yet more curry! We spent the day buying gifts and stuff to take back with us – including a trip to Gilbert’s sweet shop, which someone had told me, erroneously as it transpired, had closed. One-minute read, 2 pictures

Late at night sitting on my brother’s kitchen floor (365:191) – UK June 2011 – Day 26. Last week we were Scottish Episcopalians, this week we reverted to CofE, and made a final visit to St Margaret’s. 2 3
