Memories of India (365: 125)

Memories of India (365: 125). Copyright © 2007 Gary Allman, all rights reserved. I haven’t visited India for a couple of years, so it’ll have changed a lot. I love the country and the people; I’d go back tomorrow given the chance.
(I’m still trying to find a lighting setup to replace my broken desk lamp. I can’t find a replacement tube, and it is becoming increasingly frustrating. This took 2 lamps and a 4’x4′ reflector, and the lighting still sucks. Unlike my desk lamp the ones I have now don’t have any reach or extensive adjustment.)

Brought to Book (365: 122)

Brought to Book (365: 122) Copyright © 2007 Gary Allman, all rights reserved. I love books; just about every one of those shelves is double stacked. Fact, fiction, and illustrations. And I’ll reread some over and over.
The Riddle of the Sands – my travel book, which I can pick up from any page. I’ve read it so many times that it’s become an old friend. Garrison Keillor – oh, I love the sound of his voice, and I can hear it in my head as I read his prose. John Updyke, such observation and power. Iain Banks – Superb. Jonathan Raban’s “Old Glory” – “This Magnificent Book,” it says on the dust jacket – and that doesn’t do it justice; he paints with words quite literally. I could go on; I’ve hardly scratched the surface.

Time to reflect (365: 121)

Time to reflect (365: 121) Copyright © 2007 Gary Allman, all rights reserved. I’ve been on leave for a week, and I’m returning to work feeling absolutely wrecked. Oh well, that’s life, not to worry. Worse things happen at sea – well, l actually in the harbour. I’m willing to bet there aren’t many people who had to abandon ship in a marina 🙂
Taken sitting on the sofa bed in youngest’s room.
My hardest job right now is deciding which one of these 25 pictures to make my 365 Days picture.

Rainy Days and Mondays…

Rainy Days and Mondays… Copyright © 2007 Gary Allman, all rights reserved. Not that it got me down. But it is Monday, and it was raining. Bright sunshine now; I really ought to get out more.
I haven’t heard that track for years, an old (and she will be by now, though I’m sure I wouldn’t be popular for pointing it out) girlfriend used to listen to the Carpenters all the time and it sorta rubbed off on me, and yes, I do have one or two albums. That’s me definitely down in the credibility stakes.

Chasing out the wall, chasing out the wall (365: 120)

Chasing out the wall, chasing out the wall (365: 120) — To the tune of “Bringing in the Sheaves.” Copyright © 2007 Gary Allman, all rights reserved. Light switches are worse as you tend to be working over your head. The downstairs sockets were a nightmare as we have a solid concrete sub-floor, and all the wires have to go up the wall. I was going to say, well, that’s that job done, but I’ve just realised there should be a spur off here for the computer equipment. D’oh!

That’s it no more smiles or attempts at humour, normal service resumes tomorrow. -

Not quite as good as the similar shot on Day 90, but what a difference a month makes, two pics in a row and I’m smiling! Just don’t expect it every damn day 😉

Polling Day (365: 117)

Polling Day (365: 117) – Local council elections, and Gary does his civic duty. Copyright © 2007 Gary Allman, all rights reserved Local council elections and Gary does his civic duty. After a fraught night, a quick sleep in the garden this afternoon has re-introduced me to the human race. A quick scrub-up didn’t do any harm either. For some reason, this guy looks in good humour too 🙂
Having had all day to get out and vote, I managed to leave it late and had to push up the ISO setting on the camera because it was getting dark, so the picture’s a bit noisy. It was also taken upside down – much easier when using my right hand.
Future Gary: This is not my original shot. But I prefer this one.
