My first impressions are that it is wider, and the structural ridgeline is slightly shorter than my Chameleon’s. That appears to result in my being able to lie flatter, and I’m not bashing my head on stuff hanging on the ridgeline when I get in and out of the hammock.

Updates

  • March 5, 2026. I’ve used my DutchWare Gear Chameleon hammock just once since I bought the Circadian hammock in 2024. The Chameleon’s fabric feels silkier, and I think it weighs slightly less. It uses a much thinner ridge line, and there’s nothing wrong with that, just a difference. The Chameleon definitely sets differently. I was suckered by Gear Acquisition Syndrome and marketing hype when I bought the Chameleon, and I also bought the ‘Sidecar’ pocket and the winter cover. The Sidecar just encouraged me to dump stuff in it, which wasn’t necessary, and I never could find anything without completely emptying it. The winter cover works, but the condensation was a beast to deal with. I’d rather be able to see out all around the hammock, and in the winter, I love to watch the stars. So, no cover and no tarp, and it’s fine. Overall, I prefer the comfort of the Hammock Gear Circadian. I also bought the Hammock Gear peak shelf to stow odds and ends in, but I struggled with it; it doesn’t work as well for me as the DutchWare gear shelf. I’ve now fitted the DutchWare Gear shelf into the Circadian.

In conclusion, both are excellent hammocks and have served me well, but for now, the Circadian is my go-to hammock.
